Peter Lester

Peter was born in Scunthorpe, England and was inspired to play the game after local hero, Tony Jacklin, won the Open in 1969. He loved to practice from the very first, and had many successful years as a junior, shooting his first par round in competitive play at just 12 years old!

Peter turned professional at the age of 15 to try and establish himself as a player on the European Tour. He had some success winning minor tournaments but never quite reaching his lofty goals for Tour success.

In 1986, Peter decided to move to Sweden to develop his teaching skills, and for 17 years gave thousands of lessons coaching golfers of all ages and levels. He had great success in coaching golfers from beginners to elite to professional level. He built a reputation for coaching national players as well as with teams. It was the boom years in Swedish golf, and Peter was very active developing the game. Many of his students went on to win international tournaments, while his junior academy grew to over 200 students during the 90’s.

He has a long list of professional players both men and ladies that have worked with him at some stage during their careers.
In 2003 Peter took up the offer to move to Portugal where he brought all of his teaching experience. At Lesters Golf academy he continues to be visited by thousands of golfers of all levels from around the world. He continues his personal development keeping up to date with the changing world of golf with all the latest tech that is available today. He has worked with a number of golf courses around Europe improving their academy facilities and programs as well as working as golf director.

Teaching Philosophy

Fuelled by his passion for the game and devoted to continuous improvement, Peter has travelled the world to learn from the world’s best coaches in order to develop his teaching knowledge. He has attended teaching seminars and learned from the likes of David Leadbetter, Butch Harmon, Claud Harmon, Dave Peltz, John Jacobs, Martin Hall, Jim Suttie, Pia Nilsson, Dennis Pugh and many more.

Peter does not teach any specific method. Rather, he focuses on the individual and tailors his coaching to each player’s body style, physical abilities and goals – fitting the swing to the body and not the body to a swing. He explains the swing in very simple terms and likes to develop good routines and simple drills that are the foundation of better scores. Students always leave with a simple checklist of takeaways, and Peter guarantees that you will play better golf! In fact, over 90% of his golf school students return because they know he cares about making their experience fun and rewarding on the range or on the course.

We offer students at Lesters Golf over 40 years of experience developing golfers through research and study. Our golf school site will provide you with everything you need to know before you book.

We aim to give each student a repeatable swing and more consistent control of the golf ball building on each students movement patterns.

5 Days Golf School Program for Beginners or High Handicap

12 Hours – This is a complete program for the beginner or high handicap player. During 5 days of tuition you will learn all areas of the game including etiquette and rules. On the final day a visit to the golf course is included which allows each student to test their skills.
